1. Professor William Procter is known as father of pharmacy. Procter was born in the year 1817 on 3 rd may, in Baltimore.
2. William Procter’s father name is Issac Procter. In the year 1820, Procter father was dead because of yellow fever when he was a child.
3. William Procter moved to Pennsylvania, where he entered the drug store of Henry M. Zollickoffer in the year 1831. He completed his graduation in the year 1837 from the college of pharmacy. After his graduation, he started a drug store at Ninth and Lombard streets in 1844.
4. Procter spent most time in the pharmacy for formulation of pharmacopoeia and in new preparations and also by making investigations.
5. In the year 1852, Procter elected as professor of pharmacy in the college of pharmacy. In 1852, founded American pharmaceutical association, he was one of the founders in this organization.
6. In the year 1853, he prepared a paper on standard drugs, list of standard quality tests and tests for detecting adulteration.
7. In the year 1856, Procter made a report to the association on the progresses of pharmacy in United States. To the same organization, he became president in the year 1862.
8. In his 37 years of career, he brought many advancements in pharmacy industry and pharmaceutical education.
9. Procter served on all committee for revision of the “Pharmacopoeia” for thirty years.
10. Procter died suddenly with a heart stroke after delivering a lecture on 9th February in the year 1874.

Mahadeva Lal Schroff is known as the Father of Indian Pharmacy for his notorious contribution to the field of pharmacy mainly in India. He was the first person who introduced a 3-year course in Pharmacy in Banaras Hindu University. And this is the first bachelors degree course in India that is introduced and recognized.
